LEGENDS OF SALSA - A TRIBUTE TO EL GRAN COMBO DE PUERTO RICO

This winter, Le Balcon brings you some hot Caribbean sunshine! For its Legends of Salsa series, Montreal's Lengaïa orchestra, named salsa band of the year at the Canada Latin Awards 2017, pays tribute to El Gran Combo de Puerto Rico, legendary purveyors of some of the most melodic and danceable salsa ever played.

El Gran Combo de Puerto Rico, aptly nicknamed "the university of salsa," is widely considered the most popular salsa band of all time. The orchestra was founded in San Juan in 1962 by pianist Rafael Ithier, who still leads the ensemble masterfully at the age of 92. Many acclaimed artists, like Andy Montanez and Charlie Aponte, got their start with El Gran Combo. Come discover or rediscover the band's timeless salsa tunes, like "Un verano en Nueva York," "Julia" and "Te regalo el Corazon" on the dance floor at Le Balcon. It's going to be one sizzling-hot night!
