Couleurs du Brésil series celebrate the diverse styles and rhythms of Brazilian music, from bossa nova and samba to baião, côco, xote and maracatu. Le Balcon invites you to experience this dazzling panorama with Rômmel Ribeiro.

Guitarist and singer-songwriter Rômmel Ribeiro was born in northern Brazil in the mid-1980s to a family of accomplished artists. At an early age he started listening to the bossa nova greats, and soon took an interest in his country’s music. After arriving in Canada in 2006, Ribeiro got involved with the People Band and SoulJazz Orchestra, with which he has performed at major events such as the Festival international de jazz de Montréal, the Ottawa Jazz Festival, Ottawa Bluesfest and Toronto Global Groove. His eclectic style, which he has explored on four solo albums to date, marries popular Brazilian music, afro-beat, reggae, funk and jazz. He won the award for best newcomer at the Nuits d’Afrique festival in 2010, and best new world-music artist from Radio Canada’s Révélations in 2012-13.

Don’t miss this colourful evening celebrating the biggest names in Brazilian music – Gilberto Gil, Tom Jobim, Vinicius de Moraes, Caetano Veloso, Elis Regina and more.
